LEAP FOUNDATION
13 September 2015
Hi everyone, sorry ah been about 3 weeks since I last posted something. Anyway, I attended a Leap Foundation Camp from 7 September to 10 September. It was a 4D3N Leadership camp. It wasn't a training camp so it wasn't hardcore intense shit. It was more like the basics and theory all. Theory was so dry and boring. We learnt about the 7 Habits by Stephen Covey. At the start we learnt about this "Pause, Choose, Act" thing. Basically, keep calm when you are faced with a problem. Pause and rethink your thoughts first before choosing which actions to take action on. Well, it is common sense but I guess common sense just isn't common anymore. Okay, maybe it does not apply here. I mean like when you are angry you act on impulse without thinking first. Okay guys, from now on remember to PAUSE okay!? HAHA lets quote Stephen Covey, "I am responsible for me, and I can choose"
Lets move on to The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens (Abridged).
1. Be Proactive: Taking initiative in life by realising your decisions and how they align with life's principles is the primary determining factor for effectiveness in your life. Take responsibility for your choices and their consequences.
2. Begin with the End in Mind: Discover and clarify your own values, that is what is most important to you and life goals. Envision the ideal characteristics for each of your roles and relationships in life.
3. Put First Things First: Plan, prioritise, and execute your weekly tasks based on importance rather than urgency. Evaluate if these efforts exemplify your desired values, propel you towards goals, and enrich the roles and relationships related in Habit 2.
4. Think Win-Win: Strive for mutually beneficial solutions or agreements in your relationships. Value and respect people by understanding a "win" for all. This is ultimately a better long-term resolution than having one party in the situation to get his/her way.
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood: Listen empathetically and be genuinely influenced by a person. This compels them to reciprocate your attention to listen and to have an open mind to be influenced by you. This creates an atmosphere of caring, respect, and positive problem solving.
6. Synergise: Combine the strengths of people through positive teamwork, so as to achieve goals no one person could have done alone. Yield the most prolific performance out of a group of people by encouraging meaningful contribution, and modelling inspirational and supportive leadership.
7. Sharpen the Saw: Self-rejuvenation.
I'm not going on to the other theory shitz. So yeah, that is pretty much we've learnt. The camp was overall okay ah, I really like my group though, we weren't very high and fun crazy people like the other groups but we were like close to each other. I don't know how to put these into words but there was this bond that was very different and I have never felt this way before. We were connected to one another through a different kind of bond which I have never felt before... The first day was crappy because everyone was tired and was not enthusiastic. We were all like "Why are we here?". However, after we talked it out on the first day, we realised we should change ah. Our actions aren't going to help us get better. If you want the camp to be enjoyable, it starts with you. Next day we decided to be more enthusiastic and to pour our hearts and souls into doing what we are supposed to do and give it our full commitment. We eventually did better anyway. Third day was an emotional night. We had a Heart-To-Heart talk with some of our group mates. It was intense but it was great. We understood one another better and bonded way more than before.
We also had Campfire Night like duh, it is a camp tradition. I was in the Camp Committee. I was the Games IC so we had to come out with the game ideas and also, me and my friend Sheryl who was also the Game IC, were in the same camp group. Our group is called 4 Fingers because we are group 4. Anyway, we taught the performance and cheer to our group lor. Here is our group!
